I couldn’t quite decide how to categorise the performers of Police Cops (introducing a best ensemble award just feels like too much work!) so I’m recognising all of their hilarious work here. And I knew I’d love Bonnie Langford singing ‘I’m Still Here’ but I wasn’t prepared for just how much I’d be so moved by it.

Maimuna Memon, Standing at the Sky’s Edge
Amy Trigg, The Little Big Things
Memon’s anguished solo was one of the standout moments in a standout show. And Trigg’s scene-stealing work as the plain-speaking physio was perfectly pitched @sohoplace.

After some reflection and looking at how other theatre awards have addressed the issue of gendered awards, I’ve come up with my own solution. I’ve merged categories but doubled the number of awards, so that I’m still recognising the same number of performances rather than halving them, as so many others seem to have done. Each to their own, but I’d always want to celebrate more than less of the performances I’ve loved throughout the year.
