News: Theatr Clwyd to reopen with Tick, Tick… Boom!

Theatr Clwyd is thrilled to announce the cast of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick… Boom!.  Directed by Kate Wasserberg, the highly anticipated production – running from 2nd-28th June – is her first as Artistic Director of the North Wales theatre, opening her debut season and marking the reopening of the theatre following its major redevelopment.

Leading the cast is Ryan Owen, (Mother Goose – Theatr Clwyd, My Favorite Year – Bridewell Theatre, The Producers – Gordan Craig Theatre, and The Invisible Man – UK Tour) as Jon. He is joined by Port Talbot’s Christina Modestou (Brief Encounter – Royal Exchange, Manchester, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World – UK Tour,  Carousel – Regent’s Park Theatre, Six – Arts Theatre) as Susan and Tarik Frimpong, (The Drifters Girl – UK Tour, The Wiz – Hope Mill Theatre, Aladdin – West End) as Michael.

Kate Wasserberg says “We are delighted to begin a new era at Theatr Clwyd with such a fantastic show and such an amazing cast.  Ryan Owen and Christina Modestou are two of Wales’ most exciting musical theatre talents and they are joined by the acclaimed Tarik Frimpong who brings a wealth of international experience.  I am incredibly excited at the prospect of unveiling the redeveloped theatre to our audiences with Tick, Tick… Boom!   .  It is an apt title for this long-awaited moment.”

Jon is a struggling composer, stuck in a dead-end job, with a girlfriend who wants to settle down and a musical he can’t finish. Does he leave the city and his dreams behind, or follow his passion but risk losing everything?   Tick, Tick… Boom!   explores the ambition, perseverance and the sacrifice needed to reach the edge of greatness. It is written by Jonathan Larson, the visionary creator of the cult-classic RENT
