As we move past the Golden Globes, we are getting closer and closer to seeing the nominees of this year’s Oscars. Although the Golden Globes are not an indicator of who will win the Oscars, there is usually an overlap of sorts and surprisingly enough, the speeches the winners give may affect who wins the award when the Oscars roll around.
That last point may sound untrue, but it is actually a fact that a good speech can win an actor an award, with the prime example in recent memory being Brendan Frasier for The Whale and his Golden Globes speech.
Now for the fun part.
Best Actress
When we mention speeches winning people Oscars, this may be another example we can take from in the coming years, as Demi Moore’s speech at the 2025 Golden Globes was one of the best we have seen in a long time. Her performance in The Substance was a massive success and a shock to most people.
Demi Moore being in a film like The Substance is shocking on its own and her performance makes her a shoo-in for the award. However, she has tough competition in Mikey Maddison who put on a wonderful show in Anora.
Mikey Maddison and Demi Moore fighting it out for the Oscar is almost reminiscent of The Substance as a whole and although we would love a Demi Moore win, we think that The Academy allowing a horror film to win such a major award is a pipedream.
However, with the Golden Globes giving Demi the Oscar, her betting odds flew down as she currently sits at 5/4 to win the award. If you have never bet on the Oscars, it’s simple and is very similar to betting on football or darts. For example, with darts, you may look at the darts betting odds and decide to bet on Luke Littler to lift the Premier League Trophy at 11/8 and betting on the Oscars is the same.
You can either bet on Mikey Maddison to lift the award for her Earth-shattering performance in Anora at Evens (1) or bet on Demi Moore to win the Oscar for her funny and fearless performance in The Substance.
Best Actor
Now, the Best Actor award is close but not as close as Best Actress as one performance has been dominating the betting odds and the other awards. Although Timothee Chalamet put on a scarily accurate and incredible performance as Bob Dylan in The Complete Unknown, Adrien Brody is the clear favourite.
Both of these actors are incredible and both of these performances are groundbreaking in different ways, however, as Adrien Brody gets older and fewer big roles land at his desk, his winning his second Oscar over the young Timothee Chalamet would be a heartwarming story.
In 2003, Adrien Brody became the youngest actor to win the Best Actor award at 29 years old and Timothee Chalamet is at that age now and has a massive career ahead of him. With him being in some of the biggest and best films of the last decade, like the Dune franchise, Ladybird, Little Women, Wonka and more, we are witnessing an actor who is going to dominate the academy and our screens for decades to come.
Adrien Brody winning the Oscar for his awe-inspiring performance in The Brutalist is not only deserved but also a slight passing of the torch from one of the best actors of our generation to the next.
