News: musicals update for May 2021

In a co-production with The Old Vic, Emma Rice (Romantics AnonymousWise Children) and the Wise Children Company bring Percy and Eleonore Adlon’s iconic 1987 film Bagdad Cafe to The Old Vic stage with their signature playful, visual and emotional style. After a long year apart, we invite you to join us for a joyful celebration of togetherness, hope and friendship. 

The cast for Bagdad Cafe has now been revealed and includes Nandi BhebheLe Gateau ChocolatBettrys JonesPatrycja KujawskaNadine LeeSandra MarvinKandaka MooreRenell ShawGareth Snook and Ewan Wardrop. Watch at the theatre: 17 Jul–21 Aug 2021 or watch from home: 25–28 Aug 2021.

Full cast has been announced for the world premiere production of new musical Lady Chatterley’s Lover iwhich will pop into the West End for a couple of shows at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 18th and 19th June. The cast features Georgia Lennon as Lady Chatterley, Michael Pickering as Mellors, Zoe Rogers as Hilda, Jake Halsey-Jones as Tommy, Sam Kipling as Sir Clifford and Emma Lindars as Mrs Bolton.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover comes from composer John Robinson (Behind the Iron Mask), with book by Phil Willmott (Once Upon a Time) and is directed by the award-winning Sasha Regan (All-Male Pirates of Penzance), with production design by Andrew Exeter and costume design by Jasmine Swan.


Bespoke new venue The Kit Kat Club is set to open its doors in London’s West End this year with musical Cabaret, starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley. The production is set to run at the venue from November this year. Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Tony and Olivier Award-winner Eddie Redmayne is set to play The Emcee, alongside BAFTA nominee and British Independent Film Award-winner Jessie Buckley as Sally Bowles.

The production will be directed by Rebecca Frecknall (Olivier Award-winning Summer and Smoke), set and costume design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Julia Cheng, musical supervision and direction by Jennifer Whyte, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster. Casting director is Stuart Burt and the associate director is Jordan Fein.


Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre have confirmed initial principal casting for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, which plays 31 July – 25 September. Carly Bawden and Declan Bennett play Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow, John Pfumojena plays Enoch Snow, Olivier Award-winner Joanna Riding plays Nettie Fowler and Natasha May Thomas plays Louise Bigelow.
