8 Femmes chantent

The cast of 8 Femmes all sing in the film so it wasn’t too hard to find other examples of their music and so here’s a selection of some of my (Deneuve-heavy) favourites.

It is no secret that I consider Isabelle Huppert to be something of a goddess and here is further proof, as she totally owns the 80s look in singing Souvenirs Chiffonées at the end of the film Signé Charlotte

And here’s another bonus clip that demonstrates her sheer versatility – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sCPeq0o2eQ
First up for Catherine Deneuve is the dinky little jazz duet L-O-V-E with Julien Doré
Of course she can speak and sing in Italian too. Ho capito che ti amo is a duet with Gianni Morandi.
There’s something brilliant about Deneuve being in a Lars Von Trier flick and her expressions in this clip of Cvalda from Dancer in the Dark with the inimitable Björk captures much of the disarming power of that powerful film.
And last for now N’oubliez Jamais, a Joe Cocker song which is randomly in French and randomly has La Deneuve strolling around in the video.
Ludivine Sagnier’s Si Tard is taken from Les Chansons D’Amour which a good friend bought for me on DVD and which I still haven’t watched…
Emmanuelle Béart’s delicately beautiful duet with Maxime Le Forestier – Hymne à la Soie – is accompanied by a rather nifty video which is well worth sticking with til the end.
Mika’s Elle Me Dit was already a firm favourite as a reminder of a recent summer holiday so imagine my joy to find out that the video had Fanny Ardant goofing around in it too. Lots of fun.
Delving into the history of les 8 femmes, it was amazing to discover that Danielle Darrieux has been appearing in films since 1931 and is considered one of France’s greatest movie stars. This clip of the beautiful song Dans mon coeur is from the 1937 drama Retour à l’Aube.
For Virginie Ledoyen, we have Happiness, a duet of ineffably Gallic cool with Adam Cohen (son of Leonard)
And last and sadly least, here’s an interview with Firmine Richard as I could find no musical interlude for her.
